Additional information

Pleading in the Blood is the first publication on the work of performance artist Ron Athey. As editor, Johnson's role was two-fold. Firstly, Johnson collected, selected, catalogued, and prepared for publication a large amount of visual documentation (200 images) and existing writings (three essays) by Athey. Secondly, Johnson commissioned and edited 18 new essays by scholars and artists to contextualise and historicise Athey's performance work. Johnson authored an introduction (9,000 words) and a chapter (11,000 words). To launch the book, Johnson co-curated four research events at Tate Modern (London), Arnolfini (Bristol), RedCat Center (Los Angeles) and Participant Gallery (New York).
