Double-weighted statement

Federico García Lorca is the first monograph to examine how performance and other mediations of Spain's most important 20th-century playwright have shaped the ways scholars and practitioners approach his life and work. It presents, analyses and compares performance histories and the broader construction of the Lorca 'brand' through tourism and political and cultural appropriation. It required consultation of primary sources over eight years across three continents, and the collection and analysis of materials in four languages relating to 75 years of stage productions and representations of Lorca and his output in poetry, film, the visual arts, music and opera.
