Analysing English as a Lingua Franca: Corpus-driven investigation
This 120,000 word monograph draws on a corpus of 50 hours of interviews (supported by ethnographic documentation) gathered during 6 years of fieldwork among intercultural speakers of English as a Lingua Franca. The following are equivalent to individual articles: Chapter 4 on accommodation processes, Chapters 3 and 5/6 on developments in lexicogrammar and pragmatics and Chapter 7, which discusses a new approach to understanding language, language teaching and globalisation. With the exception of Chapters 5 and 6 where Cogo's input was substantially greater, and Chapter 3 where Dewey's input was greater, all other chapters are co-authored.
