One-step recovery of marrow stromal cells on nanofibers.
The development of defined substrates for stem cell isolation and recovery represents a major bottleneck in the field. This study describes an innovative approach where nanotopographical cues are presented on inert surfaces by electrospun nanofiber coating. This work, funded in part by a BBSRC CASE studentship with ComMed, has contributed to UK Patent Application (No.1214704.7) and has been expanded into application with other cell types (i.e. chondrocytes, human embryonic stem cells). Follow-on funding has been sought from BBSRC in collaboration with The Electrospinning Company (Anne Kramer, +441235567276) and Ruskinn (Greg May, +441656776044).
