Modelling and Analyzing Hybrid Electric Vehicles with Single and Dual Epicyclic Power Split Transmissions
The paper investigated new development power split transmissions (PST) and studied the performance of hybrid electrical vehicles (HEVs) using single and dual epicyclic power split transmissions. The development of PST has been a crucial feature in the technological success of hybrid driveline vehicles. A local company, AVID Vehicles Ltd have demonstrated the potential of this work in the conversion of a Nissan Note supplied by Nissan Motors UK Ltd into an electric powered car. An electric motor has been applied to the Note’s existing transmission, the efficiencies in each gear measured, and gear ratios established to achieve maximum efficiency from the driveline. This, and related, work on hybrid vehicles has gained international recognition and has been used as the basis for further developments, including novel gearbox control systems for electric vehicles. This paper is one among several outputs studied the impacts of the new transmission.
