Additional information

For the first time, this paper demonstrates the covalent linkage of a single conducting molecule between two silicon electrodes (spacing 7nm) in a CMOS compatible platform - a major step forward in hybrid silicon / molecular electronics.

The project “Molecular Electronics Gas Sensors” supporting this work was funded by an £800k TSB award, £1.6M total, led by QinetiQ whereTimothy Cox was the overall technical lead (Principal Investigator). It was also funded by the EPSRC [GS/84064/01 – Durham; GR/S84057/01 – Lancaster, GR/S84071/02 – Bangor]. It has an associated US patent granted: US7619265(B2).
