Additional information

This research addresses the pertinent industrial problem of strain measurement at nano-strain resolution to monitor the loss of loading within steel concrete pre-stressing tendons reinforcing a nuclear reactor containment vessel. A field installation is currently ongoing with project collaborators, EDF Energy (UK) [michael.johnston@edf-energy.com] and EDF R&D (France) [erwan.galenne@edf.fr], to test the techniques. The research offers significant potential for commercial exploitation in routine monitoring of existing nuclear power plants, thereby contributing to the long-term safety of new nuclear build.
