Additional information

One of a series of three papers relating to acoustic emission and rail wheel interaction. A novel frequency-based pulse-train method was developed to distinguish number, intensity and circumferential disposition of the wheel flats. These papers contribute to the recommendations to develop non human based monitoring techniques for the railway industry and with a view to helping to prevent rail disasters. The results and techniques developed have been used in further PhD work in relation to Acoustic Emission in turbines. Also a further conference paper was produced on ‘Processing techniques for dealing with pulsatile AE signals’.
