Kelly conceived the project, French Music, Culture, and National Identity (2008), when she brought together musicologists, historians, art historians and literary scholars in 2001 to explore issues of French national, regional and religious identity (1870-1939). Kelly shaped and edited this interdisciplinary collaborative publication. In addition to her chapter on Debussy, she drew together the themes of the project in her introduction.
