Double-weighted statement

This multidisciplinary volume, 258,000 words (over 90% by the author), arises from a major research project led by the author and substantially funded by the British Academy and AHRC. It uses a wide range of primary documentary (including antiquarian manuscript) sources and extensive archaeological recording carried out by the author; some data was both complex and difficult to access. The work comprises an analytical introduction (131pp) considering the historical and archaeological background; earlier research; Latin, Irish ogam and Welsh inscribed stones; sculpture (form, context, ornament, iconography, groupings); dating and chronology; and an illustrated catalogue of 160 monuments with detailed discussions.
