Additional information

This paper is the outcome of research collaboration with the Laboratory of Foundation Engineering, Soil and Rock Mechanics, Ruhr-Universitat Bochum, Germany. It was funded by the British Council DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) collaboration grant. The research entails the design of a novel oedometer that enables measuring swelling pressures of expansive soils under isochoric conditions and further loading the soil samples up to a vertical pressure of 25 MPa. This work, along with Tripathy1 and 4, led to a four year EPSRC grant for further research in this field (EP/I036427/1).
