A grounded theory approach towards conceptualizing CIS for heterogeneous work communities
<20> This work develops the theory of Common Information Spaces, to account for collaborative decision-making (CDM) in the field of Air Traffic Control (ATC). CDM is a key development in ATC, with much emphasis on technology to share information and support collaboration among those responsible for safe and efficient airport operations.
The study complements this technological line of development, emphasising the frequently ignored importance of human interpretations in effective information sharing. This issue is acutely problematic in an heterogeneous airport environment. The study was based on a rigorous grounded-theory analysis of interview and observation data, and was conducted in collaboration with a UK medium sized airport.
