<15>This is one of the first papers that proposed the multi-resolution approach for efficient query processing on large spatial databases. This is an extended journal version of a paper that originally appeared in the IEEE Data Engineering conference (ICDE) with an acceptance rate of 15%. The journal has an impact factor of 4.2. The paper formed a major part of the thesis of a PhD student from Australia and was followed by a number of publications in top database conferences and journals that adopted the same multi-resolution approach.
