Considering something ‘ELSE’: Ethical, legal and socio-economic factors in medical imaging and medical informatics
<31> This is an extended paper originally presented at MIMI conference in Beijing to a technical audience and is the only paper to introduce the wider social, legal and ethical implications/challenges of sharing confidential medical images. Three levels of perspective taken: foundational principles, formalising principles in law, application domain in the context of the grid (representing a new technological context). The paper highlights the ethical principles associated with healthcare practice and medical research, how the law addresses issues pertinent to the medical profession in the digital domain, and how changes of context are relevant in the way they challenge existing cultural practice.
