Additional information

The data for this publication came from an experiment at Argonne National Laboratory in the USA using the Gammasphere spectrometer; Smith was spokesperson for the experiment, and led the collaboration. This work built on earlier experiments in the region and used analysis techniques for neutron-gamma and alpha-proton discrimination that were developed by Smith. Smith carried out all of the data analysis. He wrote the majority of the codes used in the data analysis. The nucleus 123Ce is the most neutron-deficient odd-A cerium isotope in which excited states have been studied.
