Additional information

<28>This paper heralds a paradigm shift in the origin of life, making obsolete one of the dominant models, GARD by Doron Lancet. We have shown why his earlier proposals cannot explain chemical evolution before genes. We simulated evolution in an artificial chemistry enclosed in dividing 'soap bubbles'. We find that autocatalytic cores can act as hereditary units. Compartments are selected for adaptive combinations of cores, each core represents one bit of information. Highly accessed online we stimulated the COOL EDGE 2013 workshop at CERN, and Takashi Ikigami's lab in Tokyo is testing our claims using HCN polymerization.
