Jones's Welsh medium article on the emergence of national theatre as a primary force in twenty first century Wales makes an important contribution to the study of the emergence of modern nationhood and its accompanying cultural, social and political structures and mechanisms in Western Europe . Its primary importance derives from its location of the history of a Welsh national theatre campaign within a wider critical discourse regarding the historical relationship between culture and politics in ideas and expressions of modern Welsh nationhood.
