The target audience for this paper is the international research community working on the simulation of dam break flows over mobile sediment beds. This is a highly active research area as a consequence of the increasing international importance of flood management. Novelty in the research published here arises from the paper reporting the first application of a two phase flow modelling approach to the simulation of dam break flows including sediment transport. The rigorous testing of the algorithms using highly detailed experimental data and its comparison with the work of previous authors demonstrates the practical applicability of the method.
