Additional information

This paper reports the effect of microbubble oscillations on the walls of a blood vessel when the microbubble is excited by ultrasound. The work is highly significant because it assesses the risks of harmful bio-effects from microbubbles when these are introduced into the blood stream for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. This work was supported by the EPSRC (EP/E029310/1) in collaboration with Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and led to the formation of an EPSRC-funded consortium with Oxford University and ICR to study the effect of cavitation in high intensity focused ultrasound surgery (EP/F025750/1).
