Double-weighted statement

This monograph of c.100,000 words is based on extensive archival and primary-source research in the fields of both art history and French literature. Its key strength is in the linking of disciplines and periods (across the 1900 divide) that are usually studied separately. One reviewer described it as a 'rare example of a truly interdisciplinary word and image study'. Since its publication in 2012 it has already been reviewed widely and favourably in both art-historical and literary journals (Art Bulletin; The Burlington Magazine; French Studies; Nineteenth-Century French Studies; Italianistica; Image and Narrative).
