Double-weighted statement

This item is the result of the collection and analysis of a considerable body of material, including extensive primary sources which were initially difficult to access. Besides embracing the major part of Angela Carter’s published work and an extensive body of work by Baudelaire, Poe, Bataille and Sade, research involved the study of a substantial amount of unpublished material held in the Angela Carter archives at the British Library (including 117 volumes of writing and literary materials). Research into letters, journals and notebooks, conducted before the publication of the catalogue in Summer 2009, was particularly laborious and time-consuming.
