Double-weighted statement

This item develops a theoretically complex argument over a very extensive corpus of 50+ films, from which discussion focuses primarily on six. The embedding of the chosen films in the corpus is most explicit in Chapter 5, where animal presences in every Hitchcock film are catalogued in a reading of The Birds, and Chapter 1, which discusses the phenomenology of vision. The argument involved analysing both the extant body of psychoanalytic and biographical criticism on Hitchcock and the complex and extensive writings by Barthes and Derrida, in both French and English, with which the orthodox approach is challenged.
