Additional information

This paper provides an inter-comparison of different models with experiments on sediment transport above sand ripples, and shows that ripple migration is a crucial sand transport mechanism in the surf zone. The paper describes results from a new particle tracking (PT) technique developed within the EU project SANDPIT between 2002 and 2005. The main discrepancies between the model predictions and the experiments can be attributed to the migration of the rippled bed, which is neglected in the models. The work has contributed to projects in Liverpool, Grenoble, Bangor, Twente, Aberdeen and Plymouth.
