Additional information

<26> There is significant interest in using commercial game engines to support immersive virtual reality. This paper describes a middleware (CaveUDK) for one of the commercially most successful game engines (Unreal engine, used in over 40 major game titles). It enables to port any UDK (Unreal Development Kit) applications to any multi-screen device supporting real-time stereoscopy and synchronised animations. This research was undertaken with the technical support of Epic Games Inc., who have granted source code access under NDA. CaveUDK will be distributed free for non-commercial use, and is already in place in several research centres in Europe and the US.
