Wide Area Monitoring, Protection and Control of Future Electric Power Networks
This invited paper provides solutions for design of future Wide Area Monitoring, Protection and Control (WAMPAC) Systems. WAMPAC uses system-wide information and emerging technology to support optimal system operation. WAMPAC systems will reduce the number of blackouts and improve reliability and security of energy production, transmission and consumption. The road-map described in the paper has been accepted by National Grid, UK (contact details available) and forms the foundation of a European FP7 collaboration between several European, Asian and US academic institutions (http://www.intellicis.eu/). The work has also led to a series of international courses (http://www.ees-uetp.com/courses/course2007-06.php) and the Taishan Scholar award to Terzija.
