Additional information

The paper offers a comprehensive design and analysis procedure for cross-directional control with actuator constraints applicable to paper making, plastic film extrusion and steel making. The University of Oxford (contact details available) has adapted the proposed control structure to stabilise the booster electron beam at the Diamond Light Source synchrotron, where actuator constraints are a significant issue. Heath has subsequently collaborated with Oxford University to further improve performance (Design of Multi-Array Controllers for Synchrotrons, American Control Conference 2013, https://css.paperplaza.net/conferences/scripts/abstract.pl?ConfID=51&Number=902).
