Additional information

The paper tackles the challenging issue of evaluating the quality of tomographic images. Such images are frequently characterised by generalisations which lead to misunderstandings among the user community. This paper proposes a more scientific approach and suggests metrics that might be used to increase confidence in the anticipated performance of tomographs. This is the first paper involving electrical tomography to attempt to interpret the quality of images as a function of various influential parameters. It has attracted positive feedback from the industrial user community (contact details available). The work also informed the selection of technique used by He et al (doi:10.1155/2012/528096).
