English abstract

Italian language. This chapter is included in the Marsilio volume published in 2012 to accompany a retrospective of Moretti’s work hosted by the Mostra del Nuovo Cinema di Pesaro (Italy). The piece provides a detailed analysis of the narrative in Moretti’s three most recent feature films: The Son’s Room, The Caiman and Habemus Papam – all of which touch on controversial subject matter. My analysis highlights dense, narrative structures, carefully developed at screenwriting stage and finalized in editing. The methodology adopted embraces quantitative and qualitative analysis of story, narrative threads, patterns and techniques, character arcs and aspects of the mise-en-scène.
