Additional information
This paper describes the development and industrial validation of a virtual inspection system, based on the finite element method, which evaluates the dimensional tolerance of forged aerofoil blades. A particular strength is that a strong correlation was obtained with real inspection data from corresponding aerofoil components. The work was conducted as part of a series of EPSRC-funded projects in collaboration with Rolls-Royce. The techniques presented create a novel opportunity to evaluate the performance of components from as-manufactured geometry and properties.
