This paper reported a record set of both positive and negative coefficients of thermal expansion together with an explanation based on structural reasoning. In its short lifetime it has sparked a lot of interest and work within the wider community. In particular, it has generated a lot of activity aimed at optimising the properties of materials with similar behaviour for a wide range of applications such as sensors.
