The paper presents a novel morphological filtering scheme to extract features of current transformer saturation to prevent protection relay mal-operation. The work was supported by ALSTOM and National Grid, the work attracted an EPSRC grant (EP/D080711/1) with support from Siemens, and has formed a focus of original and international leading research in this area, and active interest from major suppliers (alan.manson@siemens.com).
