"Sinn und Form": The Anatomy of a Literary Journal
The twofold significance of this study of Sinn und Form reflects Parker and Philpotts’s respective contributions. Part-supported by a Humboldt Fellowship, Parker’s substantial archival research (1990-2001) permitted the historical analysis of the journal. Philpotts’s reading of Bourdieu's sociology of culture (AHRC leave award, 2008) permitted a first typological analysis of such a journal and provided the conceptual framework informing the book’s structure. In the final writing Parker took a lead on chapters 3, 4, and 5; Philpotts on chapters 2, 6, and 7; the introduction, conclusion, and chapter 1 were fully co-written. Each contributed 50% overall to the final output.
