Double-weighted statement

This 185 page sole authored academic book (80,000 words, 4 pages of index, over 200 references) is unique in synthesizing research on metacognition across a wide range of curriculum areas. Theories of metacognition are critically analysed with reference to developments in cognitive neuroscience; embodied cognition, mindfulness and transpersonal psychology. The book draws on ten years of the author’s own research including a three year project on metacognition during a cognitive acceleration programme and a one year project on young children’s writing and metacognition. The book argues for a theory of metacognition which takes account of wider social and political factors.
