Additional information

Understanding the oxidation mechanisms in ceramics is of great importance as ceramics significantly influence our technological progress The lifespan of ceramic components in extreme environments determines exploitation safety. Complicated processes during ceramic synthesis are compounded by intricate processes of oxidation in multi-component systems. This international collaboration brought together leading groups and experts to investigate evolution and mechanisms of oxygen ingression into SiC and then transformation of the oxygen rich matrix into complex titania complexes which were successfully identified. The transition from an oxygen rich matrix to oxides has important functional consequences for industrial SiC ceramic applications.
