Additional information

Modern large area coated glazing products are heat-treated to make them toughenable, which results in the diffusion of mobile atoms, such as silver from the functional coating and sodium from the glass. This paper describes a detailed study of the diffusion processes in typical glazing product coatings. An extensive suite of analytical tools have been used in combination with modelling techniques to describe the process. This paper is a successful example of academics and industrialists (NSG, formerly Pilkingtons) collaborating to address a significant problem in the glazing industry.
