Additional information

The work builds on the research led by co-authors Professor Townsend and Dr Stuart Harmer for the EU funded ESPRIT project, IMPACT, and later continued by an initiative called IMPECABLE (Esprit Project 26272 – IMPACT; http://cordis.europa.eu/esprit/src/26272.htm and European Commission IMPECABLE, Contract Number G5RDCT-2000-00372). In the research, partners from five European countries achieved dramatic improvements in sensitivity, extended the measurable wavelength range, and identified a potentially life-saving opportunity in the diagnosis of breast cancer with photomultiplier devices. Therefore, the work has significant potential impact and relevance to industry
