Additional information

The author developed a novel magnetic device that can steer beams of charged particles in a vacuum through an arbitrary angle, allowing the quantum states of electrons to be probed for the first time at any angle as they are ejected from an ionising event. Such experimental measurements are vital in validating fundamental theoretical models that describe atomic processes. This paper was the result of a lengthy international collaboration between the author and three of the world’s leading experimental atomic research groups.
