Additional information

The paper presents a highly novel millimetre wave radar system capable of very effectively detecting a range of threat items (PBIED, guns, knives) concealed on body at considerable standoff distances (25 metres or more). There are no methods in production capable of such effective performance. The novelty is in the combined use of polarimetry, ultra wide band and artificial intelligence to effectively detect and discriminate between threat types. The sensor described in this paper is currently being evaluated by the Home Office and others and is being licensed for production. U.K. Patent 2 458 764, Mar. 18, 2009
