This work was commissioned by Nicolas Bourriaud for 'Estratos - Proyecto Arte Contemporaneo Murcia', dealing broadly with archeology as a process and as a metaphor in relation to the medieval city of Murcia. The work was sited in the Museo de Santa Clara and shown using an adaptation of the existing set up for the tourist information video.

The work involved two literally overlapping projections with ambient sound. One projection ran through a series of video images focused on staged working processes in an artist’s studio; the other presented a narrative articulated through sequential fragments of text narrating autobiographical musings in a confessional tone. The two projections were not synchronized, and they looped at different rates, so that the relationship between the text and the image was always different, thus making some sense of the durational nature of the work and it’s siting in a gallery type space.

The piece continued my research into work made exploiting conventions of narrative and autobiography within an exhibition context, as well as developing a kind of gentle approach to context and site-specificity through insinuating the work into the existing display mechanisms of the monastery/museum.

A fully illustrated catalogue accompanied the exhibition, which also provides an English translation of the Spanish text in the video ISBN 9788475644004 342pp (My work represented on pp67-76). The work was subsequently exhibited at Galeria Elba Benitez between Madrid in 22 November 2008 - 17 January 2009

Relevant to this work , and included within the portfolio, is the transcript of a paper ‘Earnest abnegation in perpetuity‘ in’Vicissitudes: Histories and Destinies of Psychoanalysis’ pub. Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies, London 2013 ISBN: 978-085457-234-2. This paper articulates a critique of my previous research and leads into the new methods and approaches developed in this work.
