Efficient generation of inflow conditions for large-eddy simulation of street-scale flows
Significance of output:
In urban environments, improved predictions of pollutant dispersion and wind loading on structures lead to more cost-effective designs and accurate safety assessment. We developed an efficient approach of inflow boundary conditions for simulations of urban environments. The method has been incorporated into a major software release by CD-adapco (fred.mendonca@uk.cd-adapco.com) and subsequently used by end-users including Arup (Ender.Ozkan@arup.com). The method has also been used by other academic members, e.g. the UK Turbulence Consortium, University of Nottingham (David.Hargreaves@nottingham.ac.uk). This work has attracted an ongoing NCAS, NERC grant (2007-13, £460k so far) and an EPSRC/Arup CASE Studentship (2011-15, £93k).
