Additional information

The main contribution of this book chapter is an overview of recently developed asset management tools, including many of those developed as part of the FP6 Dynamite project. This multi-partner project developed new maintenance and condition monitoring systems and tools to improve maintenance in a variety of sectors including major automotive manufacturers (Volvo and Fiat). Further examples of condition monitoring are presented including details the FP6 Posseidon project which led to the development of lube oil sensor for marine diesel engines. Such systems have the potential to avoid failures which can lead to costs in excess of $1m per day
