Structural response of concrete-filled elliptical steel hollow sections under eccentric compression
This paper describes a collaborative project between the University of Bradford and the University of Warwick, looking at concrete-filled elliptical hollow sections (EHS) under combined compression and bending. The EHS is a new cross-section shape which is visually appealing and structurally efficient owing to the presence of both major and minor bending axes and is further enhanced by the use of concrete infill. There are currently no design provisions in the Eurocodes for concrete-filled EHS under this loading combination and hence the findings of this research will contribute to future revisions of the codes.
