Additional information

The work described in this paper successfully explained the beneficial effect of Ta additions in Co-based superalloys, providing a basis for the development of similar Ti-containing Co-based superalloys with remarkable mechanical properties at high temperatures (Titus, 2012). Mottura has been invited to speak about this work at TMS 2013, a Royal Society workshop on superalloys and a CECAM workshop on Chemomechanics. The work also led to the award of a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant (COALWSUPER: 618131).
