Additional information

In this paper we demonstrated for the first time that a well accepted linear relationship between the reciprocal of growth restriction factor (Q) and the grain size is incorrect. We suggest changing this linear relationship to a 1/3 power law. In addition, we revealed that the effect of solute is to retard the growth rate, which allows further nucleation before recalescence. Overall, this paper has made a solid contribution to the understanding of microstructural refinement through solidification processing.
