Enhanced self-field critical current density of nano-composite YBa2Cu3O7 thin films grown by pulsed-laser deposition
This work demonstrates that chemically stable artificial nano-scale flux pinning centres can be introduced into high temperature rare earth cuprate superconducting materials. The research led to filing patents in the UK, USA, Japan and Europe. The patent is licensed to Boeing Phantom Work Ltd (Contact name: Dr Mike Strasik). The technology is further developed to “mass produce” bulk superconductors for flywheel energy storage applications. Over 12 research papers were published in collaboration with research groups from Germany, Austria, USA, Slovakia and Japan. Numerous invited lectures were delivered (e.g, Centennial Superconductivity conference EUCAS 2011, ICSM 2010 Turkey, PAREG 2012 Taiwan).
