Additional information

This paper presents the implementation, validation and clinical testing of a method to simultaneously integrate live 3D ultrasound images from a transoesophageal probe and live 2D X-ray fluoroscopy images for the guidance of complex cardiac interventions. The core algorithm and visualization technique were the subject of 2 patents filed by Philips Healthcare with KCL as co-inventors. The software was subsequently tested on 15 clinical cases leading to a further publication. Distribution of the software via Philips Healthcare was carried out to other international clinical sites, leading to the commercial release of the Echo Navigator as a product in 2012.
