Retrospective data-driven respiratory gating for PET/CT
Gating of PET and CT data is necessary for respiratory motion correction during PET-CT scanning. Current techniques use various external devices to gate data. We describe a phase-weighted Fourier method to perform gating directly from the PET and CT data, without modification of standard clinical protocols. A rigorous evaluation on real patient data is performed. This is the first demonstration of a robust practical technique for data-driven PET gating. Further development and assessment against other approaches (notably PCA- based methods) have been performed in collaboration with GE Healthcare with a view to implementation in commercial PET-CT systems.
