Having funded this work (GR/T010440/010) to develop a novel 1-MV magnetically insulated pulse transformer the EPSRC graded the work as outstanding in their final report. Verbatim extracts from the reviews include: ‘Highly novel and original research’, ‘The research quality is internationally leading’,’………are new, which gives the investigators a world leader position in such systems’, ‘The results obtained should have a high impact on the application of magnetic insulation in high power pulse circuitry’,’ although the evidence to date is that it is well in advance of our times’.
