Children's lives, children's futures: A study of children starting secondary school
The output is a major book based on a substantial ESRC funded research study of children beginning secondary school. The study includes a large representative questionnaire survey in 15 schools and in depth personal interviews with about 40 children. Individual chapters cover children’s sense of the future, their educational intentions, their occupational plans, their views of school, their experience as learners and negative responses to school. Each of the six empirical chapters could easily be a journal article and the book overall addresses issues of social reproduction, the sociology of childhood, individualisation and structure and agency.
