Additional information

The use of special shape and special materials for brake discs in automotive applications is explored world over to meet associated safety, performance and environmental issues. This work, sponsored by EPSRC and Bentley Motors, established the effect of geometrical parameters of the brake discs on heat dissipation characteristics and hence on noise and vibration characteristics of special shaped pin vented discs. This work proved a foundation for the development more rigorous simulation based futuristic inverse design methods for designing brake discs for specific heat transfer characteristics, which is being considered by most automotive manufacturers.
